WIG’s primary social aim is to bring people together and create opportunities for people to connect. A variety of social events are planned throughout the year – please check our ‘Events’ page for the latest happenings. We are always looking to expand our social calendar – so if you have any ideas of events, please get in touch! Here are a few examples of events held:
- Social Events
WIG members enjoy outings to places of local interest, such as a silk weaving centre, a guided exhibition tour, a local industry or community handicraft enterprise. Or, a member might hold a cooking demonstration in their home, while others gather for a pot-luck dinner or morning tea when everyone brings a dish to share.
- Community Events
WIG also facilitates events for the wider community including fundraising trivia nights, a regular flea market, an annual photography competition and exhibition.
- Special Interest Groups
Many WIG members take part in a very active English conversation group. Others meet to play cards and Mahjong, and the outdoor set go hiking together. Members share good reads at book club, artists meet on Saturday mornings to draw or paint and a sewing and craft group meets regularly.
All members, their friends, family and visitors are welcome at social events. A small fee (reduced for members) is sometimes charged to cover the cost.
